What a joy to get to use “The Sing! Hymnal“ for our congregation here at Summit Park Bible Church. Felt like Christmas when I saw the boxes come in!

The Sing! Hymnal from @gettymusic and @crosswaybooks is the best printed collection of songs I know of that has the best of the new and the old alike. Looking forward to see how this will continue to be a resource for corporate and personal worship for generations to come.

Honored to have produced the new single from Lindsee Michelle, New Narrative. It’s an autobiographical song about life, loss, and trusting the Lord’s leading.

After much anticipation, “The Sing! Hymnal” from @gettymusic and @crosswaybooks has finally been shared with the world. It’s the best collection of congregational worship songs I know that balances the best of the new and the best of the old, and seeks to be a resource for the body of Christ for generations to come in both the Church and the home.

I had the privilege to work on the assembly of the hymnal, along with @dan_kreider_music at hymnworks.com and @johnwmartin. My role consisted of arranging and editing the hymns and songs in the notation engraving process as they are prepared for printing. (basically, if you see any errors in the hymnal, it might be my fault lol)

One of my main goals is to be a musical resource for the Church in any way I can, especially regarding things that will have a generational impact long after I’m gone. This project has been a perfect example of just that. So thankful to the Lord that He provided an opportunity for me to have a small hand in the process, and looking forward to seeing the countless ways that this will be a blessing to believers across the world.

I got to chat with hymn writer and recording artist @mattpapa to take a peek inside his world of music. Matt is a father of five and serves at Marco Presbyterian Church in Marcos Island, FL. He is most prominently known as being part of the joint artistry project of Matt Boswell & Matt Papa which has produced some of the most sung songs in churches today, with anthems such as “His Mercy Is More”, “Come Behold The Wondrous Mystery”, and “Christ Our Hope In Life and Death”. Matt is a part of the @gettymusic hymn writing team which seeks to provide songs and resources for the local church.

On a personal note, few people have informed my own songwriting as much as Matt Papa, who I learned indirectly from for years and more recently has been a kind resource of wisdom and feedback. When it comes to writing music for the Church, there are few better examples to follow for composing biblical and beautiful songs of corporate worship.

I can hardly believe it, but I’m tremendously exited to announce that I just signed on to write the original score for my first feature length film, a civil war drama called “Love Never Dies”. (script shows working title)

I’m still pinching myself. I’ll be writing and producing the orchestrated soundtrack for a wonderful story initially adapted from a book, then a stage play, and now in the format of a movie, shooting for a fall 2026 release. I’ve always wanted to have a go at scoring a proper film, but I certainly wasn’t expecting an opportunity like this to come about any time soon for a little guy like me. Could not be more thankful to the Lord for bringing this about in ways I couldn’t have planned myself!

I’m only a musician today because I first became fascinated with the possibilities of fingerstyle guitar as a teenager. Long before I wrote my first song or recorded music, I loved sitting for hours figuring out how to make my fingers play harmony and melody (and sometimes percussion) at the same time. Here’s just a little taste of that, merged with my love of jazz.

The Master’s Chorale PNW ‘25 tour!

If you know me, you probably know that I went to school at TMU. I only first became interested in the school after hearing this choir sing back in 2019 (but only after my mom’s urging, because I thought “choirs were for grandmas”) and it’s no stretch to say that show changed my life. The music was great, but what I really loved was how they talked about Jesus. I wanted to be around more people who were crazy about Christ.

Because of this event, I was tremendously blessed to eventually come to TMU and be a part of that chorale for four years, including tours around the US, Israel, and Italy. I have this group to thank for some of the best conversations, music, and adventures I’ve ever had. (Ask me sometime about playing bongos with one of the mayors of Rome)

Having them come back to WA this year was quite an opportunity to reflect on the LORD’s sovereignty and how He uses things that we would never expect for our good and His glory. A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
